The residency

SOUND RES is an international residency on sound, an intensive course during which international and local musicians collaborate in a full-immersion experience, creating, performing and living in the convivial and hospitable context of a small town in the south of Italy. Recently, the program has become more multidisciplinary, involving visual artists, dancers, choreographers, curators.
The curators Alessandra Pomarico - artistic director with Luigi Negro of Loop House “Projects in Residence” and music director David Cossin - share the conviction that from the unusual gathering of different artists, coming from different experiences and upbringings, a unique opportunity for new ideas, sonorities, performances will emerge. The co-living experience in a different place, far from other obligations, has been proved to be inspirational as well as the starting point of new collaboration among participants. Depending on the specialty of the residency guests and local contributors, every year the curatorial approach is conceived to encourage a collaborative experience and include artists’ vision, projects and ideas.
The residency is meant to be a catalyst, a place where creative encounters can happen, in the relaxing yet happening atmosphere of the Southern Italian summer lifestyle: charming housing, good food, beautiful landscapes. A key feature of the program is also the contribution to the cultural growth of the area of Salento: students, local musicians, the audience in general and the community are all invited to take part to the workshops, open rehearsals, lectures and informal meetings.

Autodreamographical Tales, the project

A few years back a radio station in California commisioned Terry Riley a piece, at that time he was documenting his dreams. Every morning Terry would wake up and record everything he remembered from his dreams, and he would add electronic noises, echoes, scraps of melodies, and tape loops of strange sounds. Terry gave us a recording of a few of his dream pieces, as a kind of present, and we were knocked out...Bang on a Can then commissioned Terry Riley to orchestrate his dream-narratives for the Bang on a Can All-Stars. Autodreamographical Tales will be the result of this collaboration. We are very grateful for having the opportunity to spend one week in residence with Terry .Terry's personality is unique in the music world, or any other. One of the major benefits of this project is that the clarity and beauty of his personality shine right through.
